What I have learned in magazines so far?

  • Date line: in a different place than expect in most magazines, but still makes the magazine look professional, because of how neat and tidy the date, price, issue number and bar-code is.
I have annotated the above magazine to help explain what I have learnt from the previous media lesson on Friday the 20Th. I then decided to note down any other important facts I thought were going to be most valuable to me when getting ideas to create my own music magazine.

Requirements in a Magazine:
  • Master-head
  • Dateline
  • Selling line
  • Cover lines
  • Bar code
  • Left third
  • Main cover line
  • Model credit
  • Main image
  • Use of different fronts and sizes
For my magazine I will want to be using colours that contrast with each other and not Greens whites and Blacks.
Colour Association:
Red: Danger, Blood, Fear, Love, Evil
Black: Metal, Dark, Mysterious, Evil
Blue: Sky, Sea, Calm, Peaceful, Good
Green: Nature, Earth, Clean.
White: Pure, Honest

Important Facts:
  • Eyes = Usually known as the 'Window to the soul', magazines usually focus their images on the eyes of (for example: artists) people on the front cover, as it is the first thing readers what to do is make eye contact with the cover to help attract them into reading and finally buying the magazine.
  • Using numbers on the front cover of a magazine will show the reader that there is a lot within the magazine.
  • Magazine covers are the most important part for selling the magazine they are worth 90% of sales.

  1. Some fantastic notes and annotations. Well done! Be careful with terms - it's 'masthead', not 'master head'. :-)
